Getting your adult permit in NC.

If your over 18 but you need practice before getting your license your can get your adult permit.

With your adult permit you can practice driving at anytime as long as you have a supervising adult (over 18) in the passengers seat, with a valid drivers license.

How do I get my permit?

You go to the DMV and tell them you want to get your adult permit.

You will have to take a vision, road signs and road test.

If you already have your under 18 permit but still want more practice you don't have to take the test again just tell them you want to get your adult permit.

If you pass the test you just pay the $15 fee for the permit and your ready to start practicing.

What you need to bring to get your permit

Weither your getting your Adult or limited permit you must bring the following:

  • Your Social Security card
  • Proof of Identity and age
  • And proof of residency

A power bill, water bill or light bill in your name Or

a lease or housing contract.

(If your under 18 your transcript should be OK.)

Getting your under 18 permit.

You must take Drivers Education

I think its like 30hrs of book work and 6hrs of driving.

Ask your school or local DMV about where you can take drivers ED.

After you have completed drivers ED and have it approved by your school, you can take your certificate and every thing else you need(see above) to the DMV.

At the DMV you will take a road test, vision, and road signs test.

If you pass the test you can get your permit ($15).

However if you fail the test you can come back as soon as the next day and retake the test.

Until you get your after nines you will have a curfew on your permit, you can get your after nines after 6 months of having your permit.

You must have a supervising driver in the passengers seat who is over 21 and has had thier license for at least 5 years.

Im pretty sure thier is a restriction on how many passengers you can have and their ages, check with your DMV to make sure.

Happy driving!!!
